Most manganese preparations are based on mineral salts. Manganese II MSE works differently: the element comes from Spirulina platensis - a microalga cultivated to accumulate manganese within its biomass. As a result, each tablet contains 500 mg of spirulina and 1 mg of organically bound manganese.

The algae are harvested from soda lakes, which gives the preparation a low iodine content - important for people who avoid algae-based products due to thyroid concerns. Spirulina's cell walls contain no cellulose. The formula was developed in the German MSE laboratory of Dr. Franz Enzmann, manufactured in Germany to GMP standard.
