Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal fertility and normal reproductive function. Vitamin B6 contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity. Folic acid supplementation increases folate levels in the mother.

Folic acid supplementation increases folate levels in the mother, and low folate levels in the mother are a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus.
